Fractional Chief AI Officer

Your board is asking about AI. Someone needs to own the answer.

Delta Camp embeds a senior AI leader with your executive team — to build your AI strategy, govern its rollout, and make sure it actually runs. Not a consulting deck. A working roadmap, a governance framework, and the people trained to execute it.

Engagements from 90 days · Backed by the Automation Audit framework and Delta Camp's expert network.

Why boards act

Boards move on two things. Risk and falling behind.

ORGANIZATION RISK

Shadow AI is already running inside your organisation. Marketing uses ChatGPT. Finance uses Copilot. Someone in operations signed up for a tool you've never heard of — and it's processing customer data on an external server. . You don't have an acceptable use framework.

The board question isn't whether to act. It's whether to act before or after an incident forces the conversation.

Competitive advantage

Your AI-native competitors are already shipping. They've cut operating costs, accelerated delivery cycles, and let smaller teams do what yours takes twice the headcount to accomplish.

The organisations that move in 2026 have an 18-month head start on every organisation that waits for certainty.

Both problems have the same answer: someone at board level who owns AI, accountably, and has already done it.

The problem

Most organisations are experimenting with AI. None of them have anyone accountable for it.

01

Pilot purgatory

Your teams are running proof-of-concepts that never reach production. The CTO is stretched. The business is spending on AI experiments with no way to measure what's coming back.

02

No governance, growing risk

Marketing uses one AI tool. Finance uses another. There's no data policy, no acceptable use framework, no way to answer the board when they ask what you're doing about AI regulation.

03

Everyone's waiting for someone to lead it

AI strategy gets deferred to "whoever has time." That's not a strategy — it's how a company falls behind one quarter at a time.

The organisations winning with AI in 2026 didn't have bigger budgets. They had someone accountable.

The role

A Fractional Chief AI Officer does what a consultant won't.

A consultant delivers a strategy. A Fractional CAIO owns it.

They sit at your leadership table. They chair your AI governance. They define the roadmap, prioritise the use cases, build the measurement framework, and hold themselves accountable to the outcomes — the same way any C-suite leader would.

The engagement

90 days. Three phases. Board-ready by the end.

Phase 1 · Month 1

Discover

We map your organisation’s actual AI exposure — what’s running, what IT doesn’t know about, what’s in scope for PDPA and regulatory risk. Interviews across leadership. A review of your data, tools, and current AI use (approved and otherwise). A ranked list of your highest-ROI opportunities.

Deliverables

AI Maturity Scorecard Use Case Priority Map Data Readiness Assessment

Phase 2 · Month 2

Design

Governance gets built, not recommended. We draft the acceptable use policy, set the data classification rules, define the approval workflows, and create the measurement framework. We make the build-vs-buy calls on tooling, and set the roadmap your teams will execute — not your consultants.

Deliverables

Strategic AI Roadmap Governance Framework Pilot Scope Documents KPI Framework

Phase 3 · Month 3

Enable

Your teams get trained on the actual tools that will run your first pilots. The pilots launch. The operating model gets documented. The transition is defined from Day 1 — whether that’s a retainer, an internal hire, or handoff to the trained teams. Nothing depends on Delta Camp staying in the building.

Why Delta Camp

Strategy without execution is a slide deck. We bring both.

01

The Automation Audit framework

The same framework at the core of our corporate training is how your Fractional CAIO maps your organisation. Every use case, every process, every team — mapped into what AI can run alone, what it can assist, and what stays human. It's battle-tested across dozens of organisations. Not built from scratch for your engagement.

02

Backed by a live training network

Your AI strategy is only as good as the people executing it. Delta Camp's corporate workshops and individual accelerator programmes mean your teams can be trained in parallel with the strategy being built — not six months later. We close the gap between "we have a roadmap" and "our people can run it."

03

APAC-grounded, not APAC-visiting

Most fractional AI leadership firms are US or UK operations that parachute into the region. Delta Camp is built for Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. We understand the regulatory context, the talent landscape, and what mid-market organisations here actually need — which is different from what a Silicon Valley firm assumes.

This engagement is right for you if:

A

Mid-market leadership teams

Revenue $5M–$200M. Enough operational complexity to benefit from AI at scale. Not yet ready to justify a $500K+ full-time hire.

B

Organisations in pilot purgatory

You've run AI experiments. Some worked. None made it to production. You need someone with the cross-functional authority to break through the gridlock.

C

Boards with AI questions they can't answer

Your investors or board are asking about your AI strategy. You need a credible answer by next quarter — not next year.

D

Companies evaluating a full-time CAIO

Before you commit to a permanent hire, build the roadmap and prove the value. The fractional engagement defines the role so the full-time hire is scoped right.

Three ways to engage.

Every engagement is scoped to your organisation. Pricing is confirmed after the discovery call.

If you have a fractional CFO, you already understand this model.

A decade ago, mid-market companies figured out they needed sophisticated financial leadership — capital allocation, investor relations, audit readiness — before they could afford a full-time CFO. The fractional CFO model built a billion-dollar industry.

The AI moment is the same. The talent pool is small, the role is expensive, and the cost of waiting compounds every quarter. Your competitors aren't waiting to have perfect data or a full-time budget. They're using fractional leadership to build the foundation now.

The organisations that hire a Fractional CAIO in 2026 will have a 12–18 month head start on every organisation that waits for the role to feel "necessary."

Questions from leadership teams.

Something not covered here? Raise it on the discovery call.

Why not a strategy consultancy?+

They'll give you a diagnostic, a framework, and a slide deck. The work of building governance, training teams, and making the first pilots run lands back with your team — who weren't part of building the strategy and don't own the methodology.

Delta Camp doesn't separate strategy from execution. The CAIO engagement ends with governance running, teams trained, and pilots in production. The board gets the same rigour. The business gets the actual output.

Our CTO already handles technology strategy. Why do we need this?+

The CAIO role is different from the CTO role. A CTO manages existing technology — infrastructure, security, product. A CAIO owns AI transformation: identifying use cases across the whole business, building governance, driving adoption, reporting to the board. Most CTOs are already overextended. Adding AI strategy without someone to own it means AI becomes a side project.

We're not sure we're ready for AI yet. Is this still relevant?+

That belief is one of the most expensive mistakes organisations make. Waiting for "readiness" is waiting for a moving target. A Fractional CAIO assesses your current position — including your data readiness — and builds a roadmap that accounts for where you actually are, not where you wish you were. Many of our highest-value engagements start exactly here.

That belief is often the first risk. Waiting for readiness is a decision. It just looks like caution.

What happens after the 90-day engagement?+

Three paths: an ongoing advisory retainer, a transition to an internal hire (scoped from the engagement), or handoff to execution teams — including Delta Camp's trained workforce. We build the transition into the engagement from Day 1, so there's no dependency and no cliff.

How does this connect to Delta Camp's training programmes?+

The Fractional CAIO defines the strategy. The Corporate Workshops train the teams to execute it. The individual programmes develop the internal talent to sustain it. Delta Camp is the only organisation in the region that can do all three. Most advisory firms hand you a strategy and wish you luck with the people side.

What's the geographic scope?+

Primary focus: Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. We work across APAC where the engagement fits and the context is right. If you're outside those markets, reach out — we take select engagements where we can be genuinely useful.

The first call is a 45-minute discovery — we map where your organisation is, what the board is asking for, and whether a Fractional CAIO engagement is the right move right now. No pitch deck. No sales process. Just a direct conversation about your situation.
